Local Outreach

We are a Church that is dedicated to serving and caring for our community. Helping the hurting and expressing our gifts and abilities to bless others is part of who we are.

Willowbrook

One way we support our local community is through active giving to and volunteering at Willowbrook Food Pantry.

Willowbrook Food Pantry, a ministry of Mountain Home United Methodist Church, is a local food pantry in Sherwood, Oregon.  Our pantry is a ‘grocery store‘ where the clients shop from the stocked shelves.  In addition, we offer meat, fresh veggies and fruit, milk, eggs and butter. The pantry partners with the Oregon Food Bank and receives donations from four churches, annual food drives from two Sherwood elementary schools, and other organizations.

A person or head of family in need can come to the food pantry during hours listed with proof of Oregon residency.

Each year, Mountain Home UMC donates more than 500 pounds of food and joyful financial assistance to Willowbrook Food Pantry.

Good Neighbor Center

Once or twice a year, we gather items to give to the Good Neighbor Center in Tigard to support their work with families and children in need. Past projects have included school supplies, summer camp items, and pajamas and blankets.

Bike Rest Stop

Because of our location at the top of a hill frequented by cyclists, in the summer of 2017, MHUMC established the Mountain Home Bike Rest Stop. We invite cyclists or others passing our property to stop and take a break, enjoying the beautiful view on our property. We also provide water and bike tools for those in need.

Prayer Shawls

Through our prayer shawl ministry, members of the congregation knit or crochet shawls that we bless and give to people in our community dealing with illness or personal crisis. As the recipients wrap themselves in the shawls, they are reminded of our prayers and God's care and presence.
